Meadow lakes and bogs

MEADOW LAKES AND BOGS

Wetland lakes and bogs are typical Danish natural habitats found across most of the country; in many cases, they have been restored following years of drainage. Many of the restored peri-urban wetland lakes have become important habitats for birdlife while also serving as significant recreational areas. Typical examples in the Aarhus area include Egå Engsø and Årslev Engsø. Lille Vildmose is an example of a major nature restoration project in which a drained peat bog has been returned to its original state, characterized by a high water table.
